The consecutive tragedies that have befallen Nigeria is not something that we are unfamiliar with. We have become so used to bad things happening to us that we now only react when it hits us closely.
As long as our loved ones are safe, the world can move on, life goes on like nothing happened. We're now used to SARS harassment,bombings in the North-East,communal clashes, violence in every form and of course bad governance.
We've tucked our anger away,we don't feel outraged anymore, we are numb to whatever happens while we wait for the next bad news to help us forget about the last one.
How long must we continue like this? When will we begin to hold those responsible for these happenings? Will we wait until we're next?
Nigeria is a blessed country. The only curse that hovers around us is the politicians we put in power. Greedy,selfish and self-serving bunch of people that only look out for themselves and their elite friends.
Who will look after the middle class and those below? Please, don't say God!
A lot of people have called for prayers and fasting so that God can reset this nation.
Prayers will not work without definitive action.
The change Nigeria needs, begins with you and I. We all need attitudinal change towards a lot of things. Our complacency and nonchalance will be the death of us.
We need to think of positive ways to build our nation. We cannot continue to sit back and allow a select few run our country into into ruins.
We need to get off our butts and work towards a better us.
It starts from that man that throws empty cans out of his moving car,even when he sees a bin; the Igbo man that slanders his Yoruba neighbour for no reason; the young boy that steals from his neighbour and different other scenarios.
It all boils down to LACK OF LOVE! We do not love each other. We need to learn to love our neighbours whether Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa. Our diversity remains our greatest strength but religiosity and fanaticism has made us forget that we are ONE! One people, One Nigeria!
Can you kill someone you love over cows? Will you destroy your brother's property and source of livelihood deliberately? Will you kill a loved one over a piece of land in a shared border?
We need to do better really. Other African countries are beginning to overtake us in every area. Nigeria is too blessed to take a backseat. We need to move past the hate we harbour in our hearts and focus on the one thing that binds us; our country.
Progress will only come when we drop religious and ethnic biases and work towards improving our Nation. We have a lot to give and share within ourselves.
I hope we all take a step back and have a sober reflection. We can't continue to live like this. We can do better, we must do better!
I pray for peace in Plateau, Nassarawa, Borno, Yobe, Ebonyi, and every other state where violence abounds. May the souls of the departed rest in the peace of God.
